Reducing, Reusing and Recycling are important because the less we throw away the less room needs to be made for our ever growing garbage dumps. I don’t think they call them “dumps” anymore, so I guess I better get with the program.
Anyway, we do have a bit of recycling available here in Stillwaters. Plastic bottles and tubs, paper, cardboard and cans, but no glass. There are also other ways to reduce garbage and that is by preventing unwanted mail and phone books from getting delivered to us. Here are some good conservation ideas at the following websites.
First is a website to sign up for that allows you to opt of phone books you don’t use. There are three phone books delivered in our area and most of us use only one or none! Eliminating several phone books at once is as simple as going to www.yellowpagesoptout.com. Just create an account and click on the local directories that you no longer wish to receive.
Second, a good way to remove your name from several national mailing lists at once is to sign up for the Direct Marketing Association’s Mail Preference Service at www.dmachoice.org. This website provides instructions on how to register online or via U.S. mail. This service is only for national (not local) mail and only for residential, not business addresses. The service is good for five years.
This is a good way to eliminate unused phone books and foremost is a way to save a tree.
