A Change of Scenery!

A change of scenery can be a mini vacation!  Mr. Blogger and I ventured to Leavenworth over the weekend for a short couple of days getaway.  We enjoyed the scenery (it is hard to beat the alpine views this time of year) and spent time wandering the back roads and checking out the local haunts.  No schedules and no big plans made for a great short getaway.  The crisp clear air was perfect for checking out the “blood moon” that appeared Monday night but at the very last minute the clouds came in and covered up the gorgeous display of the eclipse.  Here is what we missed!

•The Moon is Earth’s only natural satellite

•Because the Moon keeps the same face turned pointed towards the Earth it is in synchronous rotation

•The Moon rotates on its own axis about once for every 27.3 days as it takes to rotate the Earth.

•There is no “Dark Side of the Moon” – the Moon rotates around the Earth and so all sides of the Moon are hit by the Sun at some point. However there is a “Far Side of the Moon” which is the side facing away from Earth.

•A full moon is about 5 times brighter than a half-moon.

Friday, April 18th:  Wine & Cheese Event from 6-9pm at the Hotel Washington Building in downtown Chehalis. Must be 21 to enter. Sample all of what the area has to offer from local cheese makers, to area wines and more presented by the Twin Cities Rotary. For more information, contact Todd at 360-880-0568.

Thursday and Friday, April 17th and 18th:  Easter Bake Sale sponsored by Relay For Life on Thursday, April 17th and Friday, April 18th from 8am-4pm at the Washington Orthopedic Center, on Cooks Hill in Centralia. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Sunday, April 20th: Easter!

Weather:  Partly sunny Friday and then rain for Saturday.  Sunday’s Easter Egg hunts will likely be wet but the weather forecast is for “mostly cloudy with a chance of showers”.  Plan for soggy egg hunters!
