Tuesday the office staff here had the great opportunity to attend the annual fun fundraiser for United Way of Lewis County. “Power of the Purse” celebrated it’s 14th year as a major fundraiser for United Way. The theme was a “A Day at the Derby” and as you can see by the pictures it was quite the event.

This fundraiser provides an opportunity each year for local women to come together to raise funds for a good cause. This year the event was sold out at 350 participants. Many were dressed for the them and wore extravagant hats and dresses. This provided for a festive atmosphere and one where fundraising for the cause was the priority.
The event was MC’d by Deanna Davis, an accomplished professional speaker and entertainer. She blended her special sense of humor with the serious goal of the evening to raise funds to reduce poverty in Lewis County.

As you can see we left our hats at home!
The Women United theme comes from a group forming locally at United Way. Women United is another way for local women to connect on the topic of positively impacting the lives of women and children in poverty. This newly forming group is hosting a “meet and greet” Wednesday, September 18th at 6 pm at the Chehalis Theater. They advertise this as an opportunity to learn more about Women United and connect with other women in the area. Click HERE to go to their website for more information.
In other news – Next week is Fair Week! Starting Tuesday and going through August 18th the Southwest Washington Fair will be in town. Put it on your calendar and plan to go Wednesday the 14th for Senior Day (1/2 price entry). Check out this WEBSITE for the schedule of events.
