Twas the week before Christmas…
Many of us are busy getting ready for Christmas and for me that included making cookies and candies to give to friends and neighbors. One of my candy making recipes was a new one for “Easy, no-fail fudge”. I had been thinking ahead and was pretty proud of myself that when I actually was ready to make the fudge I had all the ingredients in the pantry. Not the usual “run to the store” for last minute items.
Well, the no-fail fudge failed… or rather only partially set. It tasted good but you couldn’t slice it. Not to be defeated I went online to see if I could rescue my fudge. Well, I found I couldn’t rescue it but there sure were a lot of ways to “repackage” the fudge. A favorite was to bottle it and give it away as fudge sauce for over ice cream. My favorite (and what I ended up doing) was to make a recipe of Oatmeal cookie dough and place 75% in a 9″x 13″ pan. Put the fudge on top of the dough and sprinkle the remaining dough over the top. Voila! I now have “Failed Fudge” Oatmeal Bars. Mr. Blogger testifies that they are delicious!
Food is a big part of holidays and get-togethers so I found this little poem to start our Christmas weekend off right.
Eat up, it is Christmas time, food is going amok:
Turkey, peas, potatoes, and dressing perhaps even a duck.
It’s OK, eat away:
Corn, gravy, cranberries, ham.
Eat up, it is Christmas day:
Salad, rolls, butter and jams.
Eat up, it is Christmas time:
Chips, bean dip, carrots, peas.
You must do it, it is the season.
Grape juice, milk, teas and coffee.
You can not refuse; there is no reason:
Cake, gum, chocolate, candy.
The year is ending, never fear.
New Years Eve will soon be here
All resolutions will be listed in play.
A diet awaits you the very next day.

Love your emails. Poems videos on The Cup of Christmas etc. My baking abilities at times have gone south so I chuckled at the story about the fudge. Keep up the wonderful writing. I am new so they have been a delight.
Oh how easy the pounds go on. Then we remember afterwards how those pounds have claws and hooks that keep them on our beautiful bodies. We pry, tug, and do things like exercise to get rid of them, taking until Halloween to accomplish the ugly process of fat removal. So far no laws that prevent eating, but wait they may come.
