Learn a Little History

This is a little brief for a blog but I wanted to get you a reminder of a great program being offered this evening here in Stillwaters.

TONIGHT: Dan Duffy to Speak at AAUW Meeting

Local historian and longtime Centralia resident Dan Duffy will be speaking to the Lewis County branch of the American Association of University Women Thursday.

His talk will feature many historic photographs of the downtown area and show efforts that are taking place to preserve many of its interesting buildings, most of them built in the early 1900s.

Duffy will also relate some fascinating facts about the colorful owners of many of these buildings as well as events that took place behind those well preserved walls. He will also briefly cover the founding of Centralia and “The Tragedy of 1919.”

Duffy has earned the reputation of being called “Mr. Centralia,” and is well known for giving tours of the central business area, talking to civic groups about the town, and being a very active part of the community business district.

The AAUW meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. at The Gathering Place. Visitors and guests are welcome.

If you can make it, I recommend this very highly.  Several years ago I attended a walk around Centralia with Dan and about a hundred other people.  It was interesting, full of history and it was fun.  This presentation is likely to be the same.
