Do you have a favorite holiday movie? With hundreds of movies to choose from it seems there are choices for every preference. There are comedies, mysteries, musical, cartoon, heartwarming family and even some scary Christmas shows (who wants that?).
At our house the favorite is White Christmas, with Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney crooning away. My favorite scene is the dressing room scene between Crosby and Danny Kaye, where Danny is trying to convince Bing to date and get married so that he can have “at least 45 minutes to himself”. This 1954 movie was the third time the song White Christmas had been centerstage in a movie. The first was “Holiday Inn (1942” and “Blue Skies (1946)”.
I was reading this month’s AARP magazine and saw the article about White Christmas and other holiday movie trivia. This got me thinking about my list of holiday movie favorites:
- White Christmas
- Holiday Inn
- Sound of Music
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
- Home Alone
- A Charlie Brown Christmas
- Fiddler on the Roof (but of course I love this one year-round!)
Here are some interesting little facts about some of our favorite Christmas movies.

Christmas Light Display at Fort Borst Park: Choose any day between now and Christmas to take in the bright and colorful light display at Fort Borst Park in Centralia. The annual event, paid for by proceeds from previous displays, is open from 5 to 9 p.m. each day before Christmas. The drive-through display costs $3 per vehicle or a donation of food or a toy and $2.
Weather:
Rain in the forecast up until Christmas then we are set to have a sunny Christmas day. Temperatures are going to get colder day and night so it sounds like it will be a cold, crisp and sunny Christmas day. Enjoy the week ahead.
