Life in Stillwaters Estates these days is abuzz with chatter about traffic and changes to “our” intersection off of Interstate 5. The intersection is getting a major remodel and though it has been underway for the past year or so it is now getting down to the final changes which will bring changes to how we enter, exit and avoid the freeway!
Here is a good website to check on to see what’s new on this http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i5/MellentoGrandMound/phase3/.
Here is a little YouTube video that gives a birds-eye view of what the changes will look like when it is all done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR_TQvSDGfY
The best part about this remodel is:
- It will relieve congestion that happens now in trying to get through the tight quarters of Mellen Street to find your way to the freeway or into Centralia.
- We will no longer have to go on the freeway (or drive the long way around) to drive to the Harrison Avenue part of town.
The other important thing to note is that the northbound exit from Interstate 5 to Mellen opens this week and it is much farther south than the current exit. Drivers Beware!
*New Note: I drove the new northbound Mellen exit this morning and it is beautiful!
The southbound exit will open within a month and the whole project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. It will be nice to see the changes in place and it will be good to have the dust settled!
